Local retirement residences support a special mission

Press Release - 12/15/2010

The management, staff and residents of the four Winnipeg All Seniors Care Living Centres have teamed up this Holiday season to help make Christmas and Boxing Day a little warmer for 400 of Winnipeg's homeless who rely on Siloam Mission.

Sturgeon Creek I & II Retirement Residences, Shaftesbury Park Retirement Residence and Seine River Retirement Residence have answered the plea and committed to providing 200 warm “sock packages” to the Siloam Mission for distribution Christmas morning.

Making “sock packages” is easy… simply take one pair of men’s or women’s warm woolen grey long socks, roll one up and stuff into the toe of the other, then continue to fill the sock with: shampoo; conditioner; lotion; disposable razor; toothpaste; Kleenex; toothbrush; comb/brush; deodorant Q-tips; lip balm.

Over the past few weeks we have requested help from area politicians (who committed socks and sent pleas out to their constituents), local business owners, and our residents and their families. After organizing the team, gathering the “stocking stuffers” and hosting sock making parties, our shuttle bus will deliver the over 200 sock packages on Friday December 17th.

“This is definitely turning out to be a huge help to Siloam Mission and many people who find themselves in this situation will benefit greatly from the warmth these socks provide!” states Ronna Goldberg, Regional Event Planner at All Seniors Care Living Centres Inc.
