Seine River 1st place: John Evans 2nd place: Jack Richmond 3rd place: Joan Evans Our golf competition at Seine River featured 11 golfers teeing off for a chance at the medals. For some of our golfers, it was the first time they had ever tried the Wii system. They were very impressed and quickly realized that it was easy to play and they do well at. Mrs. Evans scored a birdie the first time she played and went on to win the Bronze medal. We were joined at the event by Kathy Lemky of Cassera Credit Union, a sponsor of the Senior’s games, who presented the medals and congratulated all of the participants on their success. We thank them for their participation and support. Mr. Ward commented, after trying his hand at Wii golf, “ I was never very involved in anything here but now that I see how much fun it is, I’m going to be much more active!”
Shaftesbury Park
Today the Nintendo Wii Golf event was in full swing here at Shaftesbury Park. There was a large crowd ‘following’ the golfers and cheering and being ‘in awe’ at the appropriate intervals. At noon, the speaker from the Active Living Coalition for Older Adults spoke about the range of programs that this organization had to promote activity and exercise for older adults. Great pep talk in light of this week’s flurry of active events. Ronna, the Regional Event Planner joined the crowd for the afternoon play –offs. It was a close and exciting competition (shades of the PGA) with the women tying up all the medals today. Lorraine Adam, Executive Director of Public Health for Manitoba Health addressed the audience at the Closing Ceremony with accolades for their participation and enthusiasm…role models for Manitobans of this cohort! The VIP party entered the Dining room accompanied by our accomplished pianist, Sarah Hochman. Day 4 of the Winter Games a definite success here at Shaftesbury Park! Final results were: 1st place Catherine Chinnick 2nd place Mavis Rabkin par 3rd place June Marshall par

1st place: Mr. Ray Davis
2nd place: Mr. Jim Britten
3rd place: Mr. Fred Bradley
Our golf competition at Sturgeon Creek I featured 16 golfers teeing off for a chance at the medals.
It was a close match up going into the playoffs with all four player’s neck in neck after the morning games. It ended up being 1 stroke that separated each player in the end. The crowd was on the edge of their seats as they watched Mr. Ray Davis take the win on the final hole.
We were lucky to have Mr. & Mrs. Fred & Lucy Bradley’s grandson bring by one of the official Olympic torches previously carried through the city this afternoon. Allowing many tenants to hold the torch and take photos.
We were joined at the award ceremony by Judy Askers of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and the Active Living Alliance, who gave an excellent motivating key note address. We thank Judy for her participation and support.

Victoria Landing
1st Place: Mrs. Peggy Clark
2nd Place: Mrs. Janet Fitzpatrick
3rd place: Mr. Charlie Simpson
Our golf competition at Victoria Landing featured 25 golfers teeing off for a chance at the medals.
Victoria Landing’s Golf challenge was a great success! It had the feel of being on a real course with spectators following the proper rules of etiquette; complete silence while golfer is in play & a clap when finished. Mrs. Peggy Clark our gold medal winner wowed the crowd this morning with a hole in one!
We were joined today by local dignitary and tenant Mr. Doug Steeves a retired athletic coach and very active member of the community throughout his life in Brandon. Mr. Steeves or as everyone knows him “Coach Steeves” was inducted into the Manitoba sports hall of fame in 2005. The Doug Steeves leadership award is also presented every year at the Brandon University to the athlete who displays excellent leadership in athletics. We were honoured to have Mr. Steeves speak on behalf of the senior games today before lunch and thank him for his participation and support.
It was flattering to have Mr. Steeves acknowledge us during his speech and thank us for all our hard work preparing for the Senior Games. It was unexpected and greatly appreciated!
