Our competition at Seine River saw well attended tournaments for both billiards and bocce: we had 5 billiards players and 20 bocce competitors at our tournaments.

Billiards was a very hushed event with players concentrating on making every shot. It was very competitive and exciting. Bocce was just the opposite with loud cheering, laughing, and congratulations when a shot hit the mark.

Our competitors were joined by MP, Shelly Glover, who was on hand to participate in the closing ceremony and present all of the medals to winners of today’s events. Sam Fabro, and Frank McKinnon, Canadian Hall of Famers, were also in attendance to offer their congratulations.

Shelly Glover, in her remarks, said “ You are positive role models for all ages of people and I am inspired by your commitment to remain active!”

Our competition at Sturgeon Creek  had 23 bocce competitors at our tournament.

The morning games were close with everyone playing some of their best Bocce yet. The Dining Room was full of spectators as we watched the finalist in the afternoon playoff round. Mr. Lloyd Brown got things started by landing only 2 inches away from the pallina. In the end it was a close finish with Mr. Brown taking the win only 9 inches ahead of Mr. Walters. What a day!

We were thrilled to welcome Marina McGlenen this afternoon with an official Olympic torch to show our competitors. Many pictures were taken and excitement spread quickly through the dining room as the torch made its way around.

Our competitors were joined by local dignitary City Councillor Grant Nordman, for our closing ceremony. We were pleased to have him share words of encouragement to stay active even though the games have come to an end.

It’s been an amazing week of events here at Sturgeon Creek. People are already talking about the games next year.

Out of all our players we had only one female player and although she didn’t take home a medal she put up a good fight against all the male competitors!

Our closing ceremony was a great success and we were honoured to have the mayor of Brandon hand out all of the medals to our tenants! During his opening speech he commented on how his first impression of Victoria Landing was at our open house back in May of 2007. He felt Victoria Landing was one of the nicest buildings in Brandon and today still feels the same. He commented that he was further impressed by the high level of activity that goes on here and he was proud to be a part of such an innovative and successful event!

All of the tenants were thrilled with the conclusion of the All Seniors Care Seniors Games 2010!

Our Chef de Mission closed with this comment “We are all looking forward to possibly competing in the All Seniors Care Summer Games 2010!!!
