Shaftesbury Park Results

Shaftesbury Park started their participation in the first All Seniors Care Winter Games with gusto and team spirit!  Approximately 75 people participated in the Walking Event with energy and determination.  The V.I.P guests and Chef de Missions staffed the water tables to make sure the walkers were well looked after and cheered on.  Guests of Honour were, Heather Stefansson, MLA; Buddy Tinsley, Blue Bomber Hall of Famer; Dan Johnson, long time Executive Director, Manitoba Special Olympics (retired) under whose leadership grew this organization in size and public recognition and acceptance.   International award winning piper, Nathan Mitchell piped the VIP party into a dining room packed with people wearing the Winter Games t-shirts (sea of white).  Pianist James Harrison and tenant, Izzy Jacob led the crowd in a hearty O’ Canada.  Great applause followed as the VIP party was introduced.  Heather Stefansson, who has maintained an ongoing presence in retirement residences, provided lovely words of encouragement to all in their pursuit of keeping fit and healthy.  Bud Tinsley conveyed his support for the games and his hope to see some of the SP tenants place in the national medal ceremonies!  Dan Johnson shared his passion of fitness being a goal for all Manitobans and commended all the tenants for their participation in the Games and in everyday life.  Chef de Mission, Mary Bancroft read the wonderfully supportive letter received from Federal Minister of Health, Leona Aglukkaq.  The VIP party then huddled, put their hands together then raised them with a collectively loud shout of “Let the Games Begin!”
