Day 3 of the 2017 All Seniors Care Seniors Games saw nerves getting the better of some competitors while others simply enjoying their first Games experience. Action was exciting across the country today, as the Billiards and Bocce tournaments were contested. With more than 600 competitors battling it out for medals and bragging rights at 28 retirement communities across Canada. The day was full of tension, excitement, cheers and laughter and is summed up best when Calgary’s Auburn Heights resident Mrs. R. enthusiastically exclaimed: “Let’s just have fun! I’m just having fun!” then she went on to win the gold medal in Bocce!

After the first round of the bocce playoffs and seeing some stress on their faces (as it was a national medal at stake), Health and Wellness Director, Jackie, encourage everyone to just relax and imagine themselves on the beach. The second round didn’t go so well either, so one of the competitors suggested: “it is just too darn hot on this beach I guess.” During the medal ceremony at Cite Parkway in Ottawa resident and medal winner Mr. O’Leary kneeled before the City Counsellor Toby Nussbaum to receive his medal and the dining room shook, the enthusiasm was so infectious that Mr. O’Leary was moved to exclaim: “I am so proud of the turnout! Our community here is really superb!”

Congratulations to all medalists, competitor and spectators the week so far has been amazing. And a special thank you to our Mission Staff, Billiards and Bocce volunteer assistants and our Health and Wellness staff at each residence, whose hard work has made the Games possible.
