Celebrate Mother’s Day at the Mama Bear Picnic

Posted

Mother’s Day is coming up quickly. Have you made your plans to visit your mom yet? Mother’s Day is always a great opportunity to bring the grandkids to visit grandma, or just spend some quality time with your mom yourself.

At All Seniors Care Living Centres, we’re celebrating Mother’s Day with the Mama Bear Picnic. What is a Mama Bear? “A woman, especially a mother, who is extremely protective of child and children.” A Mama Bear is someone who has always been a fierce advocate for their children and always looking out, no matter how old they are. They’re fearless, wise, protective, and in other words, just moms.

On the weekend of May 10th, our seniors home residences across the country have events planned to celebrate Mother’s Day. With a special menu and activities planned, it promises to be a great time to visit.

First, take a look at the Mama Bear Picnic menu. There will be plenty of food available, including:

  • Watermelon and feta salad
  • French fries & coleslaw (the perfect picnic side dishes)
  • Italian sandwiches
  • Honeyed fried chicken on waffles, the perfect combination of sweet and savoury, and a delicious dish for your Mother’s Day brunch
  • Teddy Grahams (because it’s for Mama Bears, of course)
  • Bear stuffing (cotton candy, but it looks just like the teddy bear stuffing every mom has carefully sewn back into a beloved bed-time companion)
  • Beehive cupcakes
  • Cupcakes bear claws

There will also be “Bear Hugs” at every woman’s place sitting. We’ve put together packages including a polar bear and two Hershey’s hugs closed with a sticker of a mama bear and her cub. In honour of the pandas currently visiting the Calgary Zoo, Calgary residences will be getting a panda instead of a polar bear in their packages.

Worried about ants, flies, or cold weather? No need. The picnics will all take place inside but we’ve got the authentic feel down pat, complete with gingham table runners and napkins. We’ll also be showing a loop of bears and their cubs in the wild.

There will be no shortage of sweets (and savoury picnic menu items) on the menu. You won’t want to miss out on the delicious offerings prepared by All Seniors Care Living Centre culinary teams led by certified Red Seal chefs. We take food seriously at all our retirement residences, and to ensure the same standard of quality is maintained across the country, we hire lead chefs with the Red Seal certification – an interprovincial qualification of skill and experience.

In addition to the tasty menu, the Mother’s Day Mama Bear Picnic will also feature a ton of fun events. Take a look at the schedule for Mother’s Day:

10 a.m. – Mama Bear Fitness: Win extra funny money for coming to fitness in your picnic costume!

11 a.m. – Mama Bear Brain Games: Stay mentally fit with neurobic puzzles, exercises for your brain that keep you sharp and on your toes. Neurobics are all about open new neural pathways, using the side of your brain that you don’t use as much, and challenging yourself.

12 p.m. – Mama Bear Picnic Lunch: After an active morning, enjoy the incredible spread prepared by our chefs.

1 p.m. – Entertainment

2 p.m. – Teddy Bear Ring Toss & Mama Bear Colouring

3 p.m. – Mama Bear Bingo

5 p.m. – Mama Bear Dinner: Fill up after an exciting afternoon of games and entertainment.

7 p.m. – Movie Night: Join in on the fun as we watch some classic movies.

Last but not least, every female resident will be given a bear-shaped jar of Canadian honey, the sweetest way to conclude the day!

Mother’s Day is the perfect time to visit your mama bear. Stop by any All Seniors Care residence in Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Saskatchewan, or Quebec for Mother’s Day. You can expect a great day filled with activities and delicious food, so don’t miss out!
