ALBERTA

Auburn Heights Retirement Residence

At Auburn Heights Retirement Residents, we had 45 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be. We had Jean, Pearl, Myrna, Doug, Sandy, and so many more that walked all 4 floors residents had such enthusiasm the residents here at Auburn Heights have towards the Games. Building pride is running high here this week.  Our Memory Care residents came down with their walkers and staff pushing the wheelchairs; everyone really enjoyed the Day! It set the stage for a fun-filled event

Athletes and Volunteers were joined at the Opening ceremony by government dignitary who participated in congratulating the all athletes on their performances. Associated Minister Tanya Fir  declared the Games officially open everyone at Auburn Heights is looking forward to the week ahead of competition. You can feel the excitement in the air!

Sage Hill Retirement Residence

“Where there is love there is life. And in this place, you can feel the love!” – John

At Sage Hill Retirement Residence, we had 45 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be.  Residents walked all 3 floors and there was a sense of friendly competition to see which team would finish walking all 3 floors first. This is just an example of the enthusiasm the residents here at Sage Hill have towards the Games. Building pride is running high here this week!

St. Albert Retirement Residence

“Love isn’t always perfect. It isn’t a fairy-tale or storybook. And it doesn’t always come easy. Love is overcoming obstacles, facing challenges, fighting to be together, holding on and never letting go. It is a short word, easy to spell, difficult to define and impossible to live without.”

At St. Albert Retirement Residence, we had SO MANY walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be!  Larry Renn was our ‘Walk the Halls’ entertainer and he had everyone grooving and walking, proud to be SARR strong!  Our Chef de Mission and Game Assistants were all ready to go bright and early this morning. Our team spirit is over the top and the residents are so enthusiastic for the week of friendly completion and memories we will create!

With the Games officially open everyone at St. Albert Retirement Residence is looking forward to the week ahead of competition. You can feel the excitement in the air!

The theme this year is Love Letters and as we engage in a week of active living, we will embrace love, friendship and caring.  Love Letters scatter throughout our main hall.

“In one letter, a resident wrote how much she loves and misses her husband who has since passed away, they use to play billiards together all the time and participated in so many of our Recreation programs, they both loved the ASCSG, seeing them together was heartwarming.  In another letter, a resident wrote that they remembered their First Kiss!! They were 8 years old and it happened in the school yard. A friendly game of tag turned into a lifelong marriage!  The last letter was written by a one of our staff, they left their family, friends, and all that they know to start a new life here in Canada. It truly was a letter written in love of how thankful they are to work here and be able to provide for their loved ones back home.

Rutherford Heights Retirement Residence

At Rutherford Heights Retirement Residence, we had 30 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be. We had 20 residents walk all 4 floors, which is just another example of the enthusiasm the residents here at Rutherford Heights have towards the Games. Building pride is running high here this week.   The Edmonton Elks Cheer Team members motivated our residents to walk the floors! Watching walking participants get their completion stickers for their ribbons from the Cheer Team was such a highlight!

 MacTaggart Place Retirement Residence

At MacTaggart Place Retirement Residence enthusiastic residents filled the halls! We had 50 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be.  Over the last year love has been blossoming in our building, and today we watched many couples walk the hallways hand in hand. Anne, one of our BLOSSOM Living participants, walked all 4 floors and was eager to keep going!

Summerwood Village Retirement Residence

At Summerwood Village we had 10 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be. Hubert H. walked all 4 floors 2 times, which is just another example of the enthusiasm the residents here at Summerwood Village have towards the Games. Building pride is running high here this week.

Some Residents tie dyed their games shirts during Spirit Week and showcased them during the Love Lane walk and Opening Ceremony. We were thrilled to hear Bill Tonita’s love story during his opening speech. He had us all in awe as he recounted how he met his wife of over 40 years!

SASKATCHEWAN

College Park I Retirement Residence

“Without a doubt, the ASCSG is off to a great beginning! I have been apart of the games for many, many years, and this year might be the best one yet! I cannot wait for the rest of the week. We have some avid walkers here at College Park Retirement Residence and the energy and laugher that filled the halls was contagious and inspiring!   The Walk 7 Roll saw more than 50 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be. They walked the entirety of all 4 floors; a few residents walked the floors 2 or 3 times, which shows the enthusiasm the residents here at College Park have towards the Games! Building pride is running high here this week.

College Park II Retirement Residence

A very fun, busy, hustle and bustle of day was had by all, we enjoyed our first event!

At College Park II, we had 15 walkers with Resident Caroline S. leading the walkers to victory with a total of 1.5 kilometers over 4 floors! Team spirit is brimming over!  A future family member of a new resident stopped in to see me and stated “This is so amazing! My mom is moving into such a great place!”

Councillor Stadnichuk’s sister Joy sang a beautiful song after the opening speeches.

Elaine P. is a new resident who is always willing to help, Elaine helped us so much this weekend with setup for the ASC Senior Games! Afterwards, Elaine said, “I really enjoyed helping and being a part of the ASCG’s, I feel happy and content when I am part of a community”.

Preston Park I Retirement Residence

At Preston Park I Retirement Residence, we had 75 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be. Resident Marie S. showed up with 14 medals jingling around her neck! She was excited to show off her previous years’ success and encourage everyone else to come out for their chance to win a medal this week!

Preston Park II Retirement Residence

“Preston Park II is the first thing I think of when I think of Love and Friendship! The best place to be!” – Barb G.

At Preston Park II, we had 48 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be. Darlene D. walking and dancing throughout the floors, bringing smiles and joy for other walkers and spectators alike. What a great example of the fun that goes on at Preston Park II. Long-time resident, Dick S., came down wearing his first ever ASCSG shirt and spoke of some of his fondest games memories. It was so wonderful for new residents to hear the different stories and be guided about what look forward to this week.

MANITOBA

River Ridge I Retirement Residence

“That was hard… But I did it!” exclaimed Linda, slightly out of breath once she finished her walk. 

 At River Ridge 1, we had 21 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be.  We had River the Coyote, River Ridge 1’s Mascot walking alongside and cheering on our long-distance walker Muriel who walked 3 floors 4 times!!  A great example of the enthusiasm the residents here at River Ridge 1 have towards the Games. Building pride and spirit is running high here this week.

In her opening speech, MP Raquel Dancho talked about two of our residents, Bob & Thorunn, who have known each other 40 years ago.  Over time they lost touch … until the two met again in River Ridge 1! They reconnected and got married this past Valentine’s Day! It really embodied our All Seniors Care Seniors Games theme of LOVE.  River Ridge II Retirement Residence

At River Ridge II Retirement Residence, we had 28 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be. We had a group of Residents walk 3 floors in record time, which is just another example of the enthusiasm the residents here at River Ridge II have towards the Games. Building pride is running high here this week.    When the residents gathered for the Walk ‘N Roll today, they were greeted by the River Ridge II 2022 Waking Assistant Terri Oye. With her shy smile and burst of enthusiasm and off they went!

Shaftesbury Park Retirement Residence

At Shaftesbury Park Retirement Residence, we had about 40 residents making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be. We also had some friendly competition to see who can walk all three floors the fastest. Mary H., Jean M., and Miriam F. walk all three floors in under 30 minutes! This is an example of how the residents here at Shaftesbury Park love a little friendly competition and are ready to compete in the Games. After our walk, residents enjoyed upbeat piano music by Al Andrusco.

In keeping with the Love Letters theme, residents reminisced that their husbands and wives used to mail love letters to them – it would take at least a week for the letters to arrive in their mailbox! Before reading the Prime Minister’s greeting during the Opening Ceremony, Chef de Mission Roberta N. couldn’t help commenting on how handsome The Right Honourable Justin Trudeau is!

With the games officially open, everyone at Shaftesbury Park Retirement Residence is looking forward to a week of friendly competition. This is going to be a fun week here at Shaftesbury!

Sturgeon Creek I Retirement Residence

At Sturgeon Creek 1 we had 50 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be. We had Bernice walk all 4 floors – twice! This is an example of the enthusiasm the residents here at Sturgeon Creel 1 have towards the Games. Building pride is running high here this week, which makes it that much more fun!

 Each floor had different special guest “Water Table Representative” to cheer on our walkers. Buzz and Boomer from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Connie Newman Executive Director Manitoba Association of Senior Centres, Kathleen Kinal our retired Director of Care, Brittany and Kristi from Assiniboia Chamber of Commerce, Office Gurv and the Auxiliary Force Cadets, and Manuel Ortega Administrative Coordinator Grace Hospital Foundation, along with Jim McDermid, Board of Directors for the Foundation. We thank everyone for joining us on this special opening day!

The 2022 Seniors Games at Sturgeon Creek Retirement Residence were officially opened by our Chef de Mission, Mr. David Boatman as he welcomed all guests and participants.  Sturgeon Creek II Retirement Residence

Here at Sturgeon Creek 2 Retirement residence, we started our 12th annual All Seniors Care Seniors Games with 19 walkers making the rounds and going the distance around the building. We had a great group of men and woman  from wheelchairs to walkers  giving their all to complete the walk. AND THEY DID.  Resident Anna Kennedy, 106 years old, completed each floor followed by a stroll outside. Incredible.  After our walk, tenants were grabbed some snacks, hydrated, and listed to the amazing sound of Doug Mymryk singing love songs.

The 2022 Seniors Games at Sturgeon Creek2 were officially opened by our Chef de Mission Joan W. as she welcomed all guests and participants.  Seine River Retirement Residence

“The Walk & Roll starts the week off with a blast! It’s so great to see so many residents out and walking! You can feel the love in the air! It’s going to be a great week!”  – Mrs. Patricia. D. 

 At Seine River Retirement Residence, we started our day with 48 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be. We had avid walkers, fast rollers and new to Seine River tenants join us this morning walking the halls for an hour! Residents set goals for themselves, and some couldn’t be stopped! We are wearing our stickers with pride! Bea. B. set a goal for herself to get the most stickers out of the walking participates this morning! At the end of the Walk & Roll event Bea. B got 19 stickers in total! GREAT JOB!

We had worked on our SEINE RIVER CHEER during Spirit Week and the residents belted it out to start our Walk & Roll event! Then, to the delight of all in attendance, it was time to enjoy some live entertainment as Victor Phillip & The Invisible Guys Trio performed LOVE SONGS to go with our LOVE LETTERS theme.

And, when resident Mrs. Carlene K. came down with her walker covered in logos by her “walking sponsors” it set the stage for a fun-filled event.

Beacon Heights Retirement Residence

Beacon Heights residents grabbed their ASCSG T-shirts and ribbons, ready to Walk & Roll! We had 15 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be.  Beacon Heights residents kept their eye on the ball, walking all 4 floors 3 times!  The camaraderie was high at the Ottawa-area seniors’ residence as athletes collected their event stickers, arm-in-arm with their cherished friends. Talk about enthusiasm for the Senior Games! Building pride is running high here this week.

At Cedarcroft Place Retirement Residence, 35 walkers make the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be.

One of wonderful our residents, Max, walked all 3 floors and then continued to dance for over an hour after that! When Dorothy first heard the music playing as she walked the halls she knew this was her time to shine and proceeded to dance with everyone including Constable Darin Fisher, who cheered us on as we walked the halls.

Chapel Hill Retirement Residence

At Chapel Hill Retirement Residence, we had 25 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be. We are so proud of all our amazing residents. It’s going to be a competitive week at Chapel Hill Retirement Residence!   Allison, Health & Wellness Director, challenged the residents to a competition during our Walk and Roll: if anyone could walk for a full 30 minutes their name would be put into a draw. Little did she know 6 residents would succeed! It was a great effort by all!!

We had a full house at our Opening Ceremony with over 50 residents joining us. Guest Laura Dudas said a few words and helped us declare the 12th annual ASCSG open. First timer Maureen H. did an INCREDIBLE job speaking as our Chef de Mission.  With the Games officially open everyone at Chapel Hill Retirement Residence is looking forward to the week ahead of competition. You can feel the excitement in the air!

Elsie brought one of our quotes from our love lane artwork and said how happy it made her to read. “Soulmate. You are my soulmate, my love, my peace, my life. You are my soft place to fall, my guiding light, my best friend. In you I see our happy ever after. What a love I have found with you, my love, my peace, my life, my soulmate.”

Cite Parkway Retirement Residence

At Cite Parkway, we had 27 walkers (and 3 rollers!)  making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be. After a fantastic Opening Ceremony, our residents were piped out of the Dining Room and lead to the elevators for the Walk and Roll.  Volunteers were waiting on the floors with water bottles, participation stickers, and words of encouragement.  Fran J., a resident at Cite Parkway, said she was going to take an extra cupcake for the Walk in case she needed more energy.

Fox Hollow Retirement Residence

“Don’t miss out on something that could be great just because it could also be difficult.” – Irene. Earlier this week, the Fox Hollow resident stated that she was quite nervous to participate in the upcoming games, and today she showed up with more enthusiasm than any other athlete!

At Fox Hollow, we had 45 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be.  We had Friendly the Fox leading the group with his torch and our resident Audrey S. serenading us as we marched!  Not only did our wonderful Ukulele Group come up with a cheer but they also did a little dance as well!

Lakeridge Heights Retirement Residence

“Love is all around us, in sport, in home, with friendships and this event couldn’t be a better way to celebrate love.” – Rhonda Mulcahy, Regional Councillor, Town of Whitby

At Lakeridge Heights we had 24 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be.  Today Lakeridge Heights hosted our 1st ASCSG Opening Ceremony and Walk and Role followed by entertainment to celebrate.  Residents cheered “Let’s Go Honeybees”, the entire walk around! We picked the perfect walking assistant – she led the cheer the entire way! Residents knew all the words to can’t help falling in love. It was really lovely hearing them all sing. Petanque roll was funny – everyone threw the ball rather than rolling. The consensus was that we may need to practice more.

Opening Ceremony began when the VIPS, game assistants, and managers were piped in  – a special moment for all residents in attendance. Our Chef de mission spoke very well and all the guests’ speeches were great and really reflected the theme of love.

McCarthy Place Retirement Residence

At McCarthy Place we had 16 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be. Resident Grace walked all 4 floors, which is just another example of the enthusiasm the residents here at McCarthy Place have towards the Senior Games. Building pride is running high here this week! We were joined by Stratford Police Darren Fischer for our Walk and Roll Entertainment, brought to you by Michael Kelly Cavan.

Athletes and Volunteers were joined at the Opening ceremony by community, business and government dignitaries who participated in congratulating all the athletes on their performances. Special thank you to

Now that the Games have begun, everyone at McCarthy Place is looking forward to the week ahead of fun and friendly competition. You can feel the excitement in the air! #LoveLetters

Summit Heights Retirement Residence

Immediately after the opening ceremonies, the Walk and Roll event began with our lead resident, Art, who faithfully works out in the Fitness Center every day.  The walk was a welcome change from the treadmill he said!  Each resident was eager to earn their stickers and add them to their collection on their ribbon. We have a competitive bunch at Summit Heights!  At Summit Heights Retirement Residence, we had 20 walkers making the trek, putting themselves to the test to see what their final distance would be.

Today’s event brought out residents who have never participated in exercise be back activities before!  When asked if they will be back for more – they said “absolutely”!

Athletes and Volunteers were joined at the Opening ceremony by community, business and government dignitaries who participated in congratulating ASC on our focus of health and wellness and wishing all of the athletes a successful performance.
