National Medalists and Competitors Beam with Love and Pride

CANADA –  The final day of the ASC Seniors Games did not disappoint! Athletes and spectators at All Seniors Care Living Centres entered the competitive arena to find ceremony, recognition, friendship, and top entertainment.

Delighted seniors shared memories and thoughts about love and love letters.  Audiences were entertained with singalongs, including this year’s theme song, Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling In Love”.

“The ASCSG is about participation! Being active. Win or lose, it’s a lot of fun! After all, I am playing against my friends in some close competition. It’s a week we all look forward to,” said Gilbert (Gib) Paradis, St. Albert’s very own TikTok star. A past baseball player, the 98-year-old stepped up to the plate: this is Gib’s 5th ASCSG and he received medals in all the games.

The 12th Annual Seniors Games really created a sense of pride and nostalgia among the athletes, from the opening piper to the passing of the torch.

From start to finish, the Games have been a resounding success as witnessed in Winnipeg, Manitoba at Sturgeon Creek II when the Minister of Seniors, Scott Johnston, presented the National Medal to Bill Campbell for Pétanque atout to cheers from his peers.

At Summit Heights in Hamilton, they were joined by MP Dan Muys, who said, “This year’s games theme of #LoveLetters is appropriate for the first games since the pandemic began. The world needs more love and kindness and these seniors exemplified that yesterday and every day.”
