Day 3 of the 2018 All Seniors Care Seniors Games action was exciting across the country today, as Billiards and Bocce tournaments were contested. With more than 850 competitors battling it out for medals and bragging rights at 29 retirement communities across Canada. The day was full of tension, excitement, cheers and laughter and is summed up best when Stratford’s Cedarcroft resident and Gold Medalist Ms. B. exclaimed: “It’s not just about winning. It’s laughter, being with other people, and having fun. That’s what the games are all about.”

After the first round of the bocce playoffs and sensing some stress in the room, Cite Parkway resident Helene C. quipped “Why is woman’s soccer so rare? It’s hard to find enough women willing to wear the same outfit!” and with that laugh everyone just relaxed and got back to enjoying the competition. While in Winnipeg at River Ridge I the River Ridge All-Stars faced tough competitor as the billiards tournament turned into a team competition. The Chef de Mission invited the neighbourhood high school hockey team, the West Kildonan Wolverines, to visit and challenge our home team. Luckily no one threw down their gloves or pulled off jerseys. Instead, there was cheering, joking and all round good spirits!

Congratulations to all medalists, competitors and spectators alike. Our week so far has been amazing. And a special thank you to our Mission Staff, Billiards and Bocce volunteer assistants and our Health and Wellness staff at each residence, whose hard work has made the Games possible. The Seniors Games are part of the All Seniors Care commitment to providing seniors with innovative ways to develop and maintain an active, healthy lifestyle and run until February 9th. Spectators and participants are always welcome! Upcoming activities include Wii golf and Shuffleboard on Thursday, and Card and Board games as well as Closing Ceremonies at each residence on Friday.
