As an Ontario-based operator of private retirement living facilities, we recognize the importance of protecting privacy, particularly where seniors, family members, substitute decision-makers, caregivers, and prospective residents interact with our website.
We collect, use, and disclose personal information in accordance with applicable law, including PIPEDA, and seek meaningful consent where required. We limit the collection of personal information to what is reasonably necessary for identified purposes.
4. Canadian Privacy Legislation
-
Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act
PIPEDA is a federal statute which applies to any organization that collects, uses, or discloses personal information in the course of commercial activities. On this, PIPEDA defines “commercial activities” as:
“…any particular transaction, act, or conduct or any regular course of conduct that is of a commercial character, including the selling, bartering, or leasing of donor, membership, or other fundraising lists”.
The PIPEDA definition of “personal information” is broad and includes any “information about an identifiable individual”, with “information” comprising a variety of identifiers: the employee’s home address and phone number, birth date, SIN, birth date, income, prior work record, ethnic/religious/racial background, and sexual orientation.
Under PIPEDA, Canadian residents have the right to access, update, and correct inaccuracies in your personal information that is in our custody and control, subject to certain exceptions as prescribed by applicable law.
You may request to access, update, and correct inaccuracies in your personal information that we have in our custody or control by emailing or writing to us at the contact information set out below. We may require that you provide sufficient identification information for the purposes of verifying the identity of any individual or organization seeking to access their personal information records. Any such identifying information will be used only for this purpose.
We expect you, from time to time, to supply us with updates to your personal information, when required. We will not routinely update your personal information, unless such a process is necessary.
At any time and for whatever reason, you may withdraw your consent for certain uses of information, subject to legal or contractual restrictions.
You also retain the right to file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if you believe your rights have been violated.
To exercise your rights under PIPEDA, please contact us at the coordinates set out below.

We comply with CASL in all commercial electronic communications. By providing your email address, you consent to receiving messages from ASCL related to products, services, and updates. You may unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in our emails or by contacting us directly.

Answers what she can, briefly, from a pre-determined and designated knowledge base;

Capture lead details, including: name, email address, phone number, residence of interest, and tour interest; and
-
Routes career-seekers and vendor and/or service solicitations to the appropriate webpage as opposed to capturing or collecting their details.
What Grace does not do:
-
She does not quote, estimate, or range any price, as pricing is handled by the individual residences;
-
She does not sell tours or recommend or compare one ASCL residence as against another; and
-
She directs sensitive care topics, such as care provision particulars, government funding, and care task breakdowns, to the applicable ASCL Lifestyle Director; and
Grace is intended for informational purposes only and is not intended to provide medical, legal, financial, or clinical advice.

Consent may be withdrawn at any time, subject to contractual or legal restrictions and provision of reasonable notice. Please be aware that if you withdraw your consent to certain uses of your personal information, it may no longer be possible for use to provide you with certain information or services.
Also, under certain circumstances, you will not be permitted to withdraw consent to certain necessary uses and disclosures of personal information that you have originally consented to. For example, we may be required by law to collect, use, or disclose (and store) personal information without your consent, to comply with other laws, an order of the court or other legal or administrative tribunal or body, or an authorized inquiry of a governmental agency.
