Cité Parkway marked its 10^th anniversary with an afternoon of celebration, but for one long term resident, the occasion was something far more personal.

Jean Claude Laliberté, who turned 95 in early September, was the first resident to take possession of their suite on day one, 23 September, 2016. To recognize his remarkable tenure, Cite Parkway surprised him by naming their main floor Bistro and activity area in his honour.

The reveal by All Seniors Care Chief Operating Officer Lily Goodman was the highlight of a special birthday celebration, with residents, families, staff and community leaders gathering for a masquerade-ball themed afternoon featuring live music, a champagne toast and cake.

“For us, celebrating 10 years is really about celebrating the people who have made Cité Parkway what it is,” said Alain Vachon, executive director of the residence.

“Monsieur Laliberté has been part of our story from the very beginning. Naming this space after him is a small way of recognizing the tremendous role he has played in our community.”

For M. Laliberté, being called up during the speeches was a shock.

“I never expected any of this, but it certainly means a lot,” he shared.

“To me, Cité Parkway is about the people and the company. I’ve seen many changes over the years, but they’ve all been for the better. I enjoy everything about living here,” he added.

Joining the celebrations were the Mayor of Ottawa, Mark Sutcliffe, former MPP for Ottawa-Vanier, Madeline Meilleur; Cllr Rawlson King (Ward 13 Rideau-Rockliffe), COO of All Seniors Care, Lily Goodman and President of the Residents’ Council, Gisele Richer.

“As a proud Francohone residence with a bilingual community, Cité Parkway has built its identity around connection, belonging and celebrating the people who call it home,” said Ms. Goodman.

“Ten years is a wonderful milestone and I’m thrilled to be here and honouring our very first resident. It’s been a very special day.”
