EDMONTON, CALGARY, REGINA, SASKATOON, BRANDON, WINNIPEG, STRATFORD, OTTAWA AND GATINEAU – All Seniors Care Living Centres residences are hosting an Intergenerational Grandparents Day on Sunday, September 13th, 2015. Join us at our lovely retirement communities across the country as we sip tea, sport bowler hats and show off fascinators while at the same time collecting food, funds and essentials in support of local food banks.

This year we are honouring all grandparents by recognizing the amazing achievement of a very famous Grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. Queen Victoria was the longest reigning monarch at 63 years and 216 days.  Queen Elizabeth II will set the new milestone at 63 years and 219 days when our Grandparents Day celebration commences. We will celebrate her achievement by helping better the lives of others through a collection of food, funds and essentials like soap and socks. Lew and Marilyn Minkler, long time All Seniors Care residents joke: “Both the Queen and the food bank are two things that just keep on giving, and apparently they are both non-perishable.”

Our 24 residences across the country are in a friendly competition again this year to raise the most food, funds and essentials for their local food bank. Last year, 22 residences raised over $15,000 in cash and 1.75 tons of food. College Park I Retirement Residence in Regina, Saskatchewan has won the bragging rights for 3 years in a row. It’s time to change that is the general thought at our other buildings so we are inviting the community at large to stop in that the closest residence and contribute to the collections from Sept. 1st to Sept. 13th, 2015.

At All Seniors Care, we believe that whether actively participating or just enjoying watching the proceedings, being involved is crucial for maintaining an active, healthy lifestyle. As a little extra fun at each of our residences, we will be celebrating couples who have been married for more than 60 years. John and Dorothy Funnel, residents at Shaftesbury Park in Winnipeg, have been married 65 years sum up the feeling of the day very nicely, “Giving to the food bank is simple as can be. How can you have a good family without good food?”

We anticipate a wonderful afternoon that will create lasting memories and friendships. Anyone wishing to join the celebration is very welcome, simply find your nearest All Seniors Care residence on our website and call reception at the building to register your names.
