Older adults across the country are in a league of their own when it came to Petanque-Atout.

CANADA – The All Seniors Games teamed up with the Ultimate Backyard Summer Camp on Wednesday, August 10th to prove that it’s more than just medals and records that matter to older adult athletes.

The first day of Camp and Day 3 of the ASC Senior Games kicked off when older adults at All Seniors Care Living Centres across the country limbered up with a Sunrise Sit & Stretch. It was the perfect way to get everyone into the competitive spirit!

Basic etiquette dictates that Pétanque be accompanied by a lot of noise like rattling balls, loud voices, and cries of encouragement.  ASCSG participants did not let their fellow players down! Whoops and hollers of support echoed around the residences as players stepped up to the throw or paced out their distances.

The day was full of excitement, cheers, and laughter with competitors battled it out for medals and bragging rights at 33 retirement communities across Canada.

The Ultimate Backyard Summer Camp portion of the day was filled with good food, great friends, and lots of fun. Perfect for our Love Letter theme. Campers enjoyed a “World of Bees” presentation by a local bee specialist and a honey-sweet Chef demonstration afterwards.

A resident at Sturgeon Creek in West Winnipeg summed up the combined Games and Camp Day. Commending activity staff on a great week, she exclaimed, “I had no idea the week would bring so much bonding!” She is spot on, the relationships gained, and memories made are priceless.

Congratulations to all medalists, competitors, spectators, and presenters! The Seniors Games are part of the All Seniors Care commitment to providing seniors with innovative ways to develop and maintain an active, healthy lifestyle and run until August 12th. Spectators and participants are always welcome!

Upcoming activities include another day of camp with Sandbag/Bean Bag competition, a Jeopardy Challenge, as well as Closing Ceremonies at each residence on Friday.
