A new All Seniors Care community in Whitby raised funds in a lead up to their swimming pool’s grand opening.

Whitby, ONTARIO – Our Whitby senior community displayed tremendous creativity in the lead up to their swimming pool’s grand opening on Thursday, May 26th. Dubbed Warren’s Big Splash, the residence raised $1500 to support life-changing programs offered through the Alzheimer Society– Durham.

“Our community is fiercely committed to raising funds to make a difference for people with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers,” said Warren Van Vorst, Executive Director of Lakeridge Heights. “The pool grand opening was an opportunity for residents and families to get involved in a fun and creative initiative, and support people who are living with dementia in Ontario. It was a win-win for everyone!”

Van Vorst earned three splashes as a result ticket sales for a 50/50 draw, raffle, and door prizes with all proceeds going to the Alzheimer’s Society. With a crowd cheering him on, Van Vorst wore a different costume for each splash.

The swimming pool’s opening has been much anticipated by residence.  Sided by soaring windows that look out onto the residence’s gardens, the pool will be used for health and fitness classes, individual swims, as well as therapeutic activities.

“We want to thank all the residents, family, and staff who donated and made this event a big success,” said Van Vorst after taking an encore splash for the crowd.
